FROM VISION TO REALITY:
THE STORY BEHIND ALEXANDER LAANEN’S LATEST TRUCK

When you build a truck from the ground up, every detail matters. Not just how it looks in daylight, but how it performs in the dark. For Alexander Laanen, lighting is not an afterthought. It is part of the foundation. Alexander’s latest build is the result of years of ideas, refinement and deliberate choices. It represents his company, his identity and his standards. It also represents BriodLights.

FROM VISION TO REALITY

Alexander’s relationship with BriodLights goes back several years. The first connection was established during the time when Lastbilsprylar had a store in Hudiksvall, where he built a strong professional relationship with Johan Eriksson, who is today a sales representative at Abkati.

In autumn 2024, during Ramsele Truck Meet, Alexander shared his plans to invest fully in his own business and take his truck build to the next level. Shortly after, discussions around lighting began to take shape behind the scenes.

Following a visit at Scania in Luleå during Christmas 2024, his local Abkati sales representative Jonas Vånsjö gained a clear understanding of the scale of the project. After reviewing detailed sketches of the entire rig, a plan was formed. The goal was clear: the truck should deliver the same strong impression at night as it does during the day.

The finished result was premiered at Wist Truck Meet in Luleå. For Alexander, this build is not only about appearance. It is about function, reliability and long-term performance.

“The collaboration with BriodLights works very well. It’s easy to stand behind products that perform the way they do,” Alexander explains.

OLYMPUS 2.0 – NO NEED FOR MORE

At the front, Alexander chose Olympus 2.0 as the primary driving light solution.

“With Olympus 2.0, BriodLights has a real winning product. These driving lights perform beyond expectations. I simply don’t feel the need to add more.”

Delivering 12,400 effective lumens in boost mode and reaching 1 lux at 844 meters, the lamp provides both long-range visibility and wide coverage. With integrated position light and warning light, it replaces the need for multiple separate units and creates a clean, purpose-driven front end.

To ensure full visibility during loading, roadside work and tight maneuvers, Alexander installed several NEX work light bars in different sizes – 798 mm and 522 mm, along with the compact 157 mm work light. This combination gives him consistent flood lighting around the entire rig, eliminating blind spots and creating a controlled working environment in all conditions. An added advantage is the integrated warning light function, which clearly signals to other road users when work is being carried out alongside the road.

A DISTINCT LIGHTING SIGNATURE

The lighting signature is completed with 49 pcs position lights in white and yellow, together with 25 pcs rear lights from Fristom. Because the truck is predominantly black, dark position lights were mounted on stainless steel details from RST-Steel, creating a distinctive profile. With four LEDs per unit, they form a clear and recognizable outline that makes the vehicle visible both in daylight and in complete darkness.

“The Fristom rear lights were an obvious choice. The feedback from the audience has been very positive. It’s great to say that they are part of the BriodLights range.”

THE BUILD PROCESS

The process behind the rig has taken several years and gone through multiple stages before reaching its final form.

The design was created by Robin Schuurman from RS Design in the Netherlands. Alexander provided specific requirements. His family crest had to be integrated into the cab, the box body and the rear doors of the trailer. All damage-exposed areas were to remain in solid color for durability. After several design drafts, the final version was approved.

The paintwork was completed by Sjöstrand Autolack in Borlänge and took over two and a half months to finalize. The interior was built by Paulamäkicustoms in Vörå, Finland, during autumn 2025, completing the project inside and out.

The final stage of the build took just over a year.

“The result is something I fully stand behind and am proud of. It represents me and my company. Being an ambassador for BriodLights, adds an added value to this build. ”
